How to vote
Voting in council elections is by post or if you are eligible, by telephone.
Enrolment for the 2022 Council Elections has closed.
You can check your enrolment details by contacting the council you enrolled with, or Electoral Commission SA (ECSA) on 1300 655 232.
Ballot papers will arrive from October 16.
Ballot papers must be posted by November 5.
Or hand delivered to City of Adelaide, 25 Pirie Street Adelaide by 5pm on November 10.
Telephone assisted voting for the upcoming council elections is now available.
You must be enrolled on your council's voters roll and be able to verify your identity to vote over the phone.
You are eligible to vote by telephone if you are:
- blind or have low vision
- Interstate or overseas during the voting period.

To vote, you must be enrolled on your council's voters roll.
Your ballot paper is mailed in a ballot pack, this is sent to your postal address.
The ballot pack contains:
- a ballot paper
- a candidate profile brochure
- a ballot paper envelope to be signed
- a reply-paid envelope
- a postal voting guide
Your ballot will tell you how many spots are vacant and give you directions on how to fill out your ballot.
Once you have filled out your ballot you will need to mail the reply-paid envelope to Electoral Commission SA (ECSA).
It must arrive before the closing date on Thursday 10 November 2022. It is strongly recommend to post your vote before Thursday 3 November to allow ample time for your ballot paper to be received.

There may be instances where you are unable to receive your ballot pack required or mail your ballot paper to cast your vote at your council election. Depending on the circumstances, you may still be able to vote.

Once your envelope has been returned, it is scanned and your name is marked off the electoral roll. This check is to ensure that you have not already voted.
When the count begins, (after your details and declaration are removed and separated) Envelopes are then opened, and ballot papers are taken out and counted.
ECSA will count the votes and will announce the winners of the elections on their website.
